Steven and Christy Maldoff arrived in Mildura, Victoria, AUSTRALIA, in 2003, and soon thereafter began the Murray River Baptist Church in Buronga, New South Wales.
With Steven graduating in Pastoral Ministries and Christy in Nursing from Pensacola Christian College (PCC) in May 1995, they dedicated their lives to God to serve Him in any capacity. After a few years working for a Christian ministry and serving as an Assistant Pastor, God impressed Steven to take a step of faith and surrender to full-time foreign missions in Australia under Baptist International Missions, Inc.
Upon arriving in Australia, the Maldoffs were faithful and busy in the task of reaching their community with the Gospel of Christ. Throughout the years, God has tremendously blessed their ministry as they have seen several receive Christ as their Savior and have seen many Christians edified and grow closer in their walk with Him. Also, God has opened the doors for several new and exciting ministry opportunities including teaching Religious Education classes in the local public schools, teaching and preaching at the local Christian school, beginning a Bible Institute, and conducting Kid's Club in an adjacent town as well as several annual and weekly church evangelistic community outreaches such as their Christmas Play, Christmas Carols in the Park, Holiday Bible Club, Buronga Food Festival, Christianity Explained, and their own Wednesday Evening Kid's Club. Not only were they able to minister to their local community of Buronga and Gol Gol, but their desire was to encourage and edify their church family through sound Biblical teaching and preaching in the Murray River Baptist Church as well as through other church-related activities such as their annual Men's and Ladies Conferences, Ladies Day, and mission trips to the Ukraine. Since 2008, the Maldoffs have hosted four YOM summer mission teams from the United States as they sought to expand their ministry opportunities to reach folks for Christ.
Now that the Murray River Baptist Church had momentum in being a strong Biblical ministry and possessed a thriving outreach to individual lives as well as the surrounding communities, during 2013 God began to work in Steven and Christy's hearts about moving on from the Murray River Baptist Church to pursue God's next step in their lives. In May 2014, the Maldoffs, with their three children Sarah, Emily, and Abigail, returned to the United States where Steven eventually assumed the Directorship of Southeast Asia Missions at BIMI in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Having a love for missions as well as the successful experience of living and ministering on a foreign field has well-prepared the Maldoffs to serve in this capacity as his desire is to not only encourage his 70+ missionaries in their ministries but also to travel to churches and conferences to encourage others to consider the call of foreign missions in their lives. One highlight during summer 2015 was that Steven was able to spend some time with Team Australia and eventually visit the Murray River Baptist Church while in Australia visiting some of his BIMI missionaries.
Steven and Christy praise God for what He has done both in their lives and in the lives of others and continue to look forward to how God will lead the Murray River Baptist Church in the future. Team Australia thanks God for allowing the Maldoffs to be instrumental in allowing us to gain a foothold of ministry in Australia. In May 2016, because of Steven's past work in Australia and current work with BIMI, Steven was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Pensacola Christian College--congratulations Dr. Maldoff! Interestingly enough, Steven was able to use several of Team Australia's format and ministry ideas as he led his first BIMI Summer Missions team to Samoa in 2016. The Maldoffs have three children--Sarah, Emily, and Abigail--with Sarah attending Pensacola Christian College since Fall 2016 majoring in Nursing.
