Monday, July 7, Sydney CBD/Darling Harbour/Circular Quay/Manly Beach (Sydney)
So good to have Christina back on our team again as she is a ’23 YOM Team Australia alumnus and provides today’s update summary as it was a “full-on” day…
Today the missions team assisted with some last-minute setup for Condell Park’s Holiday Kids Club which was a great blessing to Pastor Brendan and his wife Emma. While the girls made papier-mâché space helmets, the guys put tablecloths on tables in the great hall and almost broke an awning. However, no damage was done, and after a few hours of work, the team headed into Sydney for some sightseeing with Ben Jackey, our local tour guide (’19 and ’23 YOM Team Australia alumnus that currently teaches at the Condell Park Christian School). We rode the train into the city and got off near the Queen Victoria building, where we ate lunch. As we shopped, the group wound up in the largest Lego store in the world. Several of the girls purchased custom mini Lego figurines. We then rode a ferry to the Sydney Opera House. Although most of the group could only visit the gift shop and foyer, a few of us had the chance to go backstage to the opera house green room. After a delicious pancake dinner, Christina, Kelina, and Andrew went with Ben to a choir practice with the Sydney Chamber Choir, while the rest of the group headed out for a ferry ride over and back to Manly Beach. Overall, it was a packed but fun day, which left us refreshed and ready to serve tomorrow.
