Thursday, July 17, The Great Ocean Road (Victoria)/Young Adults Camp (Alexandra, Victoria)

As we are about to finish up our trip, this morning (after staying overnight in Warrnambool), the team was treated to several stops along one of Australia’s most iconic and scenic drives–the Great Ocean Road (including The Twelve Apostles). Jaina gives us her overview on the day…

Last night we drove from Melbourne to Warrnambool, the jumping off point for our travels today. We were up and on the road before 7 a.m., ready to head down the Great Ocean Road. We stopped at a bakery for breakfast, where we had classic Australian breakfast pastries, such as sausage rolls. Dr. Cirone was an incredible driver; he drove us patiently from stop to stop for about 11 hours. On the way to our first stop, we had a spontaneous worship time singing hymns and praises. We had a good time just driving and praising the Lord together. We were able to visit the Bay of Martyrs, the Grotto, London Bridge, the Loch Ard Gorge, and the Twelve (now Seven) Apostles along the Great Ocean Road. Each spot was a breathtaking example of God’s creation, and we all really enjoyed the time together.

That being said, it was also pretty cold and very windy. In every city we’ve been in, they tell us the next city will be freezing. However, we’ve just now hit the actual winter weather in our last week here. Overall, the Australian winter is fairly mild, though.

After hitting our last stop on the Great Ocean Road (and a quick stop at K-mart for some camp pillows), we drove several more hours to Alexandra for the Young Adults Camp. Even in our first evening here, it was such a blessing to connect with Aussie believers our age. We ate supper when we first arrived, then headed to our first service. Pastor Frank preached on how we have the mind of Christ once we accept Him as Savior. After the service, we socialized and ate some sweets before breaking up into groups to play games. Around 11 or 11:30, most everyone went back to their rooms to get ready for bed. There were a couple of groups though, that stayed up a little later playing games. It was just altogether a relaxing day with our team and an enjoyable team with the other young adults here.
